The numerous beaches along the fifteen miles of coast between St Austell Bay and Looe Bay are nearest to most of our properties. The main ones are shown below working eastwards along the coast. Polkerris
is a delightful sandy cove, with a stone harbour wall and the Rashleigh Arms
right on the beach. Sheltered and
suitable for small children. Parking
is available around 400 yards from the beach.
Polridmouth
is the next cove
along and was the setting for Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. National Trust
protected, this part of the coast is natural and unspoilt and has no facilities.
Accessed by parking at Menabilly Barton and walking ½ a mile down the footpath.
Talland
Bay is a
sheltered stretch of sand and shingle with rock pools.
There is a café and beach shop and small car park. Hannafore,
West Looe is a
shingle and rock beach with excellent rock pools and views of Looe Island.
Easily accessed by car with plenty of parking along the sea wall.
Facilities are nearby. East
Looe is a popular
sandy beach which is easily reached and is near to all of the facilities in the
town. The gently sloping beach is
ideal for small children and is sheltered by the banjo pier.
Seaton is a sand and shingle beach with easy access from the nearby car park. The River Seaton winds across the beach. Downderry is a south facing beach with sand and shingle and lots of flat pebbles ideal for "skimmers". The "Inn on the Shore" is beside the beach. Parking is available near the beach in the village car park. Portwrinkle. This is a sand and shingle beach with rock pools. The nearby hamlet of Portwrinkle has a car park, toilets and refreshements. Whitsand Bay. This is a curving bay with nearly four miles of sands. The beach is accessed by cliff paths at Freathy. There are parking places along the cliffs at various places. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the summer as there are strong currents in this area. |
