This
lovely old waterside house was built around 1805 and is in a south
facing position beside Mixtow Pill which is about half
a mile upstream from Bodinnick village, on the eastern bank of Fowey
harbour. The beautiful coves of Lantic and Lansallos Bays are around 2
miles away. Made famous by author Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, Kits House
was the chosen home of Mr Fogo, the hero of his most famous romance "The
Astonishing History of Troy Town” and there are connections with Kenneth
Grahame, author of “The Wind in the WiIlows", who was a frequent
visitor.
The house is very spacious and has lovely views of the water and
surrounding countryside from all the main rooms. It has recently been
refurnished and provides very comfortable accommodation for eight people
and a baby. There is access via steps from the terrace to a small landing
stage which has running moorings. Visitors to Kits House often bring
their own boats (or rent one), allowing easy and enjoyable access to
Fowey without using a car.
There are four bedrooms, one with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom,
one with a five foot double bed, cot and en-suite shower room, a third with a
double bed and its own direct access to the main bathroom and a fourth
which has two full sized bunk beds. The main and en-suite bathroom have
showers over the bath.
There is a large sitting room with television, open fire, a carved
wooded bar (installed when Kits House was a hotel) with drinks fridge,
bar stools and extra seating. French windows lead from the sitting room
to the terrace overlooking the water.
On the terrace there is a table for eight and room to barbecue.
There is a spacious open plan kitchen/dining room with a large table,
television, video, Radio/CD and French windows to the terrace. The kitchen area is
very well equipped with a double electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher,
large fridge/freezer and food and plate warmer. A washing machine and
tumble dryer are also provided in the utility room. Adjoining the
utility room is a ground floor lavatory with washbasin.
Kits House has oil fired central heating. Electricity, heating and logs
are included in the rent. Bed linen is supplied and a cot and highchair
are available. A payphone is provided for outgoing calls. There is ample
parking.
Pets are not allowed in Kits House. A dinghy from a local boatyard
can usually be hired and delivered to this property. Please ask
for details when booking as availability in high season is limited.
